Random Post #2 -- Rating Matchas Around LA

But First, Matcha

On top of making my own matcha at home almost every day, I like to visit different cafes around LA and try their matcha. Below are my ratings of them (so you know which ones are worth it and which are not)!

  • Community Goods – 9.5/10
    • Starting off strong, this coffee shop in Melrose definitely lives up to the hype. Most frequently visited by celebrities like the Biebers, there’s always a line out the door. However, the wait is well worth it. I always order the matcha einspanner– a strong, iced matcha latte topped with a sweet (but not too sweet) cold foam. Simply amazing. Before you know it, your cup will be empty and your cravings for it won’t stop!

  • Dulce – 8/10
    • Oldie but goldie. Grabbing yourself matcha at Dulce in between classes is always a classic. The matcha flavor is there and you can never go wrong with it. Although it is a solid matcha spot, I feel like the matcha is on the sweeter side, which I’m not quite a fan of. It's still my go-to when I’m on campus, though!

  • Maru Coffee 10/10
    • I tried Maru for the first time a couple of weeks ago and OH. MY. GOD. Amazing. Please order the iced matcha einspanner and come talk to me. It’s even better than Community Good’s. When you order the matcha einspanner, they give you the iced matcha with the cream on the side. You then pour the cream on top of your matcha to your liking. The cream almost looks like melted marshmallows– it’s a slightly sweet and soft cream cold foam that is not too thick or thin. It’s perfect. One caveat, though, is that the matcha will cost you $10. Yes, I’m not lying. Although more on the expensive side, it is the best matcha I’ve tasted in LA so far.

  • Damo – 8.2/10
    • If you’re ever in K-Town, check this spot out! One of their famous drinks is the iced matcha, and it’s pretty good. Strong matcha flavor and not too bad of a price. Solid choice but nothing too special.

Happy matcha-ing. 😋

I'm addicted to Dulce, and I used to go there every morning to get their Matcha Blueberry latte and the Koko Churro. I do find it quite sweet though, so I'm excited to try the other cafes that you shared! The Community Goods one in particular sounds so good: the matcha is so dark in color, and the cold foam looks so creamyyy!

Cafe hopping, specifically for Matcha, is my favorite hobby. I haven't tried Community Goods and Maru Coffee, but I'll add them to my list! I would also recommend you try Document Coffee Bar in Koreatown and Tea Master in Little Tokyo (their matcha soft serve is one of the best in my opinion).
As an avid matcha-drinker, I absolutely LOVE this post. Thank you for your honest reviews and highlighting some of the most popular cafes in the LA area. I'd love to hear what your go-to matcha order is ie. what milk or soft top you get since that may impact your overall review. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend checking out Corridor Flow in Lomita. It's in the neighborhood I grew up, they have amazing staff, and it's my favorite place to study when I'm home in the South Bay. I also heard that Nook in Torrance/Gardena is amazing too--I haven't tried it but a ton of my barista friends love it.

For some reason, I have not been able to find a good Matcha that I like! Maybe it's because I have been an avid coffee drinker for nearly a decade. But I want to like it so badly, so this post is so helpful. I have heard such good things about the Community Good ones, so I will note these ratings down and try!!!

I loved this blog, as I'm a big matcha enthusiast as well! I agree, community goods does live up to the hype, although I am hesitant to say because it is so expensive and the lines are so long. You should try Verve, it's my favorite in LA (in the arts district so not too far!)
